This function is provided for unspecified taking/viewing equipment where image rotation is required.
It is suitable for uncompressed formats such as BMP, TIFF or PNG.
It should not be used for JPG images as it will lead to loss of quality.
For them, it is better to embed a 'rotation tag' in the EXIF header.
